Dip Kitsch Series -

The aim was to create a collection of pieces that presented a visual manifestation of the passing of time. As each item dried between dips in a variety of colors, bands emerged like layers of strata, or the rings in a tree stump--documenting the process through which these mundane objects were re-appropriated into painted sculptures. Each color band was the result of a full day of drying and no two colors repeat themselves on each piece. When the objects were suspended upside-down during the drying process, the paint would accumulate at the tips and dry into spikes that, when turned right side up, created the sensation of stalagmites that protrude from the ends of the pieces…turning what was once kitschy ephemera into organic depictions of the distorting effects of the accumulation of time.
